(Sun)flowers

I planted some sunflowers in April, and they're finally blooming! I also tried to grow some scarlet runner beans, but I planted them where there wasn't any drainage. So they're not doing so well. I also planted some poppies, and they're blooming as well. I think poppies (the red ones in wheat fields) are my favorite. It's nice when beauty and food grow in the same place!

Llandudno

Yesterday, we drove out to Llandudno (pronounced llan-did-no) for the day.  It's an old tourist town on the North Wales coast.  One of the main features of the town is a very large hill that juts out into the sea called the Great Orme.  Back in the day (before history was written down) there was a community that lived there, and copper mines and a tiny little church founded by a guy named St. Tudno (hence Llan-dudno)!

So we drove up to the top, ate lunch, wandered around a little, drove down to the little church (and large cemetary!) and wandered around some more. We were then going to explore town, but unfortunately couldn't find any parking. So we drove back and had a quiet evening.

Today, I've been catching up on finances and some other work that I haven't had a chance to do for awhile.  It's nice to have a quiet day in the midst of fun adventures, exploring so many parts of Wales!

Also, we had a rental car for a day after our Weymouth trip, and it got very high mpg! :D We also had some fun playing with the Jelly Bellies that mom and dad brought over with them

Chirk Castle

"Finally!" you must be thinking.  "She gets around to updating her blog!"

I know, I know...I've been thinking the same thing too.  But don't worry.  I'm still here, still alive.  Very much so! That's the problem with writing blogs-sometimes you have to live.  And for a couple weeks (or was it a month), I was doing just that. After DTS graduation, I was hanging out with my roommate and her boyfriend, then spent a week in Harpenden helping out with various things, and now my parents are here!

Today, we visited Chirk Castle, about 10 miles from where I live.  I'd never been before, but I'd definitely visit again.  There's so much to explore! There were dungeons and towers, beautifully symmetric rooms and expansive gardens.  And for an added bonus, they had very cool wooden swords and bows and arrows that I was tempted to buy at the store.  I don't know what I'd do with them though.  Shoot at the pigeons and cats that come into our yard?  I'm sure I'd think of something.
